Public Engagement

I currently serve as Vice President for Outreach and Education for the Archaeological Institute of America and was selected as a National Lecturer for the AIA in 2020-2021. I am also an active participant in the Skype a Scientist program and regularly speak to groups of all ages in person and online. I have designed and taught a number of trainings and workshops for teachers, graduate students, and my academic and museum colleagues on best practices for teaching (usually about ancient Egypt) in museums. In 2022 I trained the docents at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in ethical teaching with ancient Egyptian objects; in 2024 I am collaborating with Primary Source to deliver a museum-based teacher training about ancient Egypt for Massachusetts public school teachers.

I pride myself on giving talks and writing publications that are accessible to a broad range of learners. See my Portfolio for a list of some examples. Check out my CV for a more comprehensive list of my recent public talks and outreach projects.
